New Delhi, 19 February (H.S.): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has finally put an end to the suspense by announcing Rekha Gupta as the new Chief Minister of Delhi.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, bringing an end to the speculation surrounding who would be chosen for the post.
Gupta's swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at the Ramlila Maidan.
She will be the second female leader from BJP to hold the top post after Sushma Swaraj and the fourth female candidate in history. Other key contenders for the post included names like Parvesh Verma, Shikha Roy, Vijender Gupta, and Satish Upadhyay.
In the recent Delhi elections, BJP won a total of 48 seats and made a comeback to the capital after 27 years. Rekha Gupta, who contested from Shalimar Bagh, emerged as a winner with a significant margin of 29,595 votes against AAP's Bandana Kumari.
Gupta has a strong political background, having served as the general secretary and president of Delhi University Students Union as part of ABVP.
She also won the Delhi Councillor elections twice in 2007 and 2012 from Uttari Pitampura (Ward 54). With her experience and leadership skills, Gupta is expected to bring positive changes and development to Delhi as its new Chief Minister.
