New Delhi, 19 February (HS): The Supreme Court has directed all the State Governments and Union Territories to ensure provision of separate rooms for childcare and feeding of infants in public buildings. A bench headed by Justice B.V. Nagaratna said that the privacy of mothers will be maintained and children will also benefit from this facility.
In fact, the Supreme Court was hearing the mother to issue directions for setting up other facilities such as rooms for breastfeeding babies and mothers in public places. Counsel appearing for the Center said that the Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Child Development had written a letter to the Chief Secretaries of all the States and Union Territories on February 27, 2024 on this issue. The court then said that it was not issuing any notice to the states and union territories and was satisfied with the replies of the chief secretaries of the states.
