New Delhi, February 18 (HS): Two agreements and five MoUs were signed after talks between India and Qatar on Tuesday. Also, both the countries agreed to take their partnership to the strategic level. Both the countries have also agreed to double the mutual trade by 2030.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani held personal and delegation level talks at Hyderabad House in Delhi on Tuesday.
In a press conference organized on the visit of Qatar's Emir to India, Secretary (CPV & OIA) in the Ministry of External Affairs Arun Kumar Chatterjee said that during the talks, investment, commerce and energy sectors were at the center of the conversation. During this, Qatar's investment in Indian Port was also discussed. India and Qatar have signed an agreement for strategic partnership. He said that India and Qatar have decided to double their mutual trade to 28 billion dollars by 2030. Currently, the trade between the two countries is $14 billion. During this, regional and international level issues were also discussed between the two countries. The situation in the Middle East was also discussed and both sides shared their positions with each other.
Chatterjee said that the situation developing in the Middle East was part of the discussions. Both sides shared their respective positions on the Israel-Hamas issue. During this, the Indian Ambassador to Qatar informed that so far 95 Indians have been pardoned by Qatar. At the same time, 600 Indians are in jail in Qatar.
