New Delhi, 18 February (HS): President Droupadi Murmu has given permission to prosecute former Delhi government minister Satyendra Jain in the Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation. According to sources, the Home Ministry had sought permission from the President to take action against Satyendra Jain under section 218 of the Indian Civil Security Code.
The Enforcement Directorate started investigation against Satyendra in 2022 in the hawala case. The ED claimed that it has sufficient evidence to prosecute Satyendra Jain. A case was registered against Jain in August 2017.
The ED investigation against Satyendra Jain is related to a money laundering case. The case was registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) under section 13 (2) (criminal misconduct by a public servant) along with section 13 (E) (disproportionate assets) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. According to the ED chargesheet, Satyendra Jain is accused of acquiring assets disproportionate to his income along with his co-accused and indulging in money laundering activities to hide it.
