Madrid, February 18 (HS): Real Valladolid, a club struggling in the Spanish Football League La Liga, sacked head coach Diego Koka on Monday. In his place, the club's B-team coach and former player Alvaro Rubio has been appointed as the new head coach.
This decision came 24 hours after Valladolid's 0-4 defeat against Sevilla. After this defeat, the team has reached the bottom of the table with only 15 points in 24 matches.
Koka's tenure lasted only eight matches
Argentine coach Diego Koka coached for the first time in Europe. He was appointed on December 1 in place of Paulo Pezzolano, but during his tenure the team registered just one win in eight matches. Valladolid collected just three points from seven La Liga matches and lost to third-tier team Ourense in the Copa del Rey. Koka's only win came against Real Betis on January 11.
Koka apologized after the defeat to Sevilla
After the crushing defeat against Sevilla on Sunday, Koka expressed his disappointment and said, I apologize, I am ashamed of what happened on the field. We tried to give the team the right direction, but after a 0-4 defeat there is no excuse left. I take full responsibility for this result.
Valladolid issued a statement
The club said in an official statement, We thank Koka and his technical staff for their efforts and wish them all the best for the future.
Rubio had previously taken charge of the team
New coach Alvaro Rubio had previously taken charge of the team temporarily between the dismissal of Paulo Pezzolano and the appointment of Koka. Then under his leadership, Valladolid had registered two wins and one loss. Now he will permanently take over the responsibility of the head coach of the team and will face the challenge of saving the team in the league.
