Kathmandu, February 17 (HS): The US administration has stopped various types of aid to Nepal. With Trump becoming the President, first the aid given by the US government's foreign aid agency USAID was stopped and now the annual financial aid of $40 million has also been stopped.
The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), headed by Elon Musk, issued a notice on Monday and immediately stopped the $20 million grant given to Nepal for financial aid and $20 million in the name of biodiversity. This amount is about 450 crores in Nepalese rupees. The notice said that all financial aid is canceled with immediate effect to prevent the misuse of the tax money of the American public by giving financial aid abroad.
Although the Nepal government has expressed ignorance about this, DOGE has given formal information about it through its X account. Through this notice, apart from other countries, Nepal has also been informed about stopping the assistance being given in the name of financial federalism and biodiversity.
Government spokesperson Prithvi Subba Gurung said that till now the government has only received formal information about stopping all types of assistance given by USAID. Till now no information has been given by the US government or the US embassy about this new order of the US administration.
