Washington, 8 December (H.S.): During a recent appearance at the Kennedy Center Honors, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his disappointment with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for not actively engaging with or reviewing the American peace proposal aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict with Russia.
Trump revealed that he had been in communication with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and high-ranking Ukrainian officials regarding the peace efforts.“So we’ve been speaking to President Putin and we’ve been speaking to Ukrainian leaders — including Zelensky, President Zelensky — and I have to say that I’m a little bit disappointed that President Zelensky hasn’t yet read the proposal, that was as of a few hours ago,” Trump stated to reporters.
This disappointment follows a series of negotiations between U.S. and Ukrainian officials that concluded without significant progress.Despite this setback, Zelensky has indicated a willingness to continue discussions, hoping to move closer to what he describes as “real peace.”
Recently, U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner held talks with Putin in Moscow, presenting a revised American peace plan. However, Russia has expressed reservations about certain aspects of the proposal, which has undergone multiple revisions since its initial unveiling last month.
Kremlin spokesperson Yuri Ushakov noted that some elements of the U.S. peace plan may be acceptable but stressed that no compromise had yet been reached, particularly regarding the Russian-held territories in Ukraine. Both sides are expected to continue negotiations in pursuit of a resolution to the conflict. The high-stakes dialogue reflects ongoing international efforts to bring about peace in Ukraine amid deep-rooted challenges and intense geopolitical tensions.
