
New Delhi, 8 December (H.S.): On the fourth death anniversary of India’s first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Singh Rawat, several prominent leaders, including Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, paid heartfelt tributes on Monday, recalling his exemplary service and contributions to the nation’s defence architecture.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said that General Rawat played a pivotal role in strengthening India’s military capability and strategic readiness. Echoing similar sentiments, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said Rawat’s contributions to national security, military modernization, and defence preparedness “remain unforgettable and continue to inspire future generations.”
In Dehradun, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami offered floral tributes at General Rawat’s statue at Kanak Chowk Park, describing him as a “symbol of courage, discipline, and patriotism.”
A two-minute silence was observed in memory of the late CDS. The event was attended by State Minister for Soldier Welfare Ganesh Joshi, and MLAs Khajan Das and Savita Kapoor.Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also extended her homage to Padma Vibhushan awardee General Rawat, calling his contribution toward modernizing and integrating India’s defence system “an indelible chapter in the nation’s military history.”
She added, “His life reflected duty, discipline, and devotion to the nation. His unwavering service to Mother India will continue to inspire every young citizen toward national service.”
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini also paid tribute, honoring General Rawat’s valor, vision, and dedication to the nation. Saini said, “His fearless leadership and reforms in the Indian Army’s modernization remain an inspiration to our armed forces. The nation will never forget his courage and sacrifice, nor that of the brave officers who lost their lives in the same tragic crash.”
General Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat, and 11 other military personnel lost their lives in a helicopter crash near Coonoor, Tamil Nadu, on December 8, 2021 — a tragedy that deeply moved the nation and its armed forces.
