New Delhi, 6 December (H.S.):
The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Saturday accused suspended Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Humayun Kabir of attempting to incite communal tension in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district under the pretext of laying the foundation stone for a Babri Mosque. The organization termed Kabir’s act as contempt of the Supreme Court’s unanimous verdict on the Ram Janmabhoomi temple dispute.
VHP’s national spokesperson Vinod Bansal said in a post on X that less than nine months have passed since attacks on minority Hindus occurred in Murshidabad, yet the MLA is once again trying to provoke unrest using the Babri Mosque issue. He alleged that Kabir aims to inflame religious sentiments, activate extremist elements, and destabilize the peace for political gains.
Bansal warned that if any attack on Hindus takes place under the guise of the Babri issue, the direct responsibility will rest on Humayun Kabir, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and the state administration. He emphasized that the Supreme Court’s verdict in the Ram Janmabhoomi case remains final and conclusive, and any attempt to violate it to disturb harmony will not be tolerated.
Highlighting the existing challenges of illegal infiltration and rising extremism in Bengal, Bansal said the MLA’s latest move poses a grave threat to the state’s law and order. He demanded strict action from the state government, stressing that the faith of millions of devotees should not be turned into a political tool.
The VHP spokesperson also urged the Governor of West Bengal and the Union Home Ministry to intervene before the situation escalates further and to suppress any disruptive attempts aimed at disturbing communal harmony.
Meanwhile, administration officials have tightened security in the Beldanga area and are closely monitoring the situation.
