New Delhi, 6 December (H.S.):
As Indigo Airlines faces a major operational crisis resulting in the cancellation of more than 500 flights, Tata Group-owned Air India and its subsidiary Air India Express have announced plans to operate additional flights to support affected passengers.
In an official statement issued on Saturday, the Air India Group said it is actively exploring measures to enhance capacity and assist passengers inconvenienced by Indigo’s large-scale flight disruptions over the past four to five days.
The move comes in response to widespread travel disruptions and passenger distress across several domestic routes. Air India, in a post on X, clarified its fare guidelines, stating that from December 4 onward, economy-class fares on non-stop domestic flights have been kept within pre-determined limits to prevent sharp fluctuations due to sudden changes in demand and supply.
A company spokesperson added that both Air India and Air India Express have introduced upper fare caps for economy tickets and are augmenting capacity to help stranded passengers and their luggage reach their destinations as swiftly as possible.
The Air India Group’s announcement follows the government's decision earlier in the day to impose temporary fare caps on air tickets amid Indigo’s flight disruption crisis. The airline, however, stressed that enforcing uniform caps on all flights is technically complex and may not be feasible across the entire network.
