Cartoon Salute to Khaki in Kundapur for Five Days

Bengaluru, 05 December (HS): Satish Acharya, a veteran cartoonist, has been guiding the Cartoon Festival at Kundapur for the past 12 years. Usually, cartoons of Kundapur and well-known cartoonists are displayed during such festivals. This year, the festival was held for five days from November 15 to 19, with a theme of a cartoon salute to the Khaki. It goes without saying that the police were the subject of the festival.

Attended by policemen and women: B. Dayanand, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) and Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services for the state of Karnataka, inaugurated the festival on the first day. The function was attended by policemen and women. The five-day camp was held at the Kundapur Rotary Club premises, just like the way it has been going on in the same premises for the past 12 years.

Master strokes...: According to Jeevan Shetty, veteran cartoonist and a resource person for the past 12 years, the cartoon festival kicked off with a very good start and initially the programs were unique for the first 3-4 years, including concepts like the Master strokes. However, after the COVID-19 pandemic, the program was revisited to make it much more interesting.

Caricature and Cartoon class for cops: The second day, a caricature and cartoon class was held for the cops and Satish Acharya himself took the classes this year. Many policemen and policewomen, including several youths, from the Khaki force took part in these classes. The lathi-wielding personnel involved in maintaining law and order found time to participate in the same with enthusiasm and attended the classes like curious students.

Caricature drawing after the camp: Jeevan Shetty also informs that the senior police officers have told all the cops attending the camp to draw at least one caricature of another colleague, after the camp. Satish Acharya dwelt in detail about the basic characteristics of drawing lines to do a caricature, including the facial expressions, divergent angles and things like that. He also did a demonstration of drawing a caricature of a person among the audience. To deliver a live example, he also drew a caricature of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Exhibition of cartoons on cops: An exhibition of cartoons on the cops, sent by several cartoonists from across the state, was also on display during the five-day camp. Cartoons of policemen drawn by Chandra Kodi, Keshav Satishlu, Chandrasekhar Shetty, Raviraj Halambi, Kalaikar, and many were also on display. The police cartoons were exhibited separately, and most of Satish Acharya's cartoons were also found in the same.

Cartoon contest for children: Also, a special cartoon contest was organised for the children in which even their parents took part, informed Jeevan Shetty.
