New Delhi, 5 December (H.S.): The People's Arm Wrestling Federation of India (PAFI) has officially announced Onam Gamno from Arunachal Pradesh as the captain of Team India for the upcoming Asian Cup Arm Wrestling Championship, with Srimant Jha, a celebrated para-arm wrestler from Chhattisgarh, appointed as the vice-captain. This announcement comes at a time when Arunachal Pradesh brims with patriotic fervour following recent significant events.

Onam Gamno, aged 27, hailing from Nagopok village in the Mebo Circle of East Siang district, is among India's most accomplished arm wrestlers. Her decorated career includes a silver and a bronze medal at the 2024 Asian Cup held in Mumbai, a bronze at the 2025 National Arm Wrestling Championship, and two gold medals at the 2023 National Championship.

Gamno's achievements have become a beacon of inspiration for youth from Northeast India.Vice-captain Srimant Jha, fresh off winning a silver medal at the Hungary Para Arm Wrestling World Cup, exemplifies determination and resilience. His involvement is seen as a source of renewed energy and strength within the team’s leadership group.

Onam Gamno expressed pride in representing India, stating, “Wearing the nation’s colours is a matter of immense honour. Every move I make is dedicated to my country. I will play with all my strength to bring glory to the tricolour.”

Preeti Jhangiani, President of PAFI and Vice-President of the Asian Arm Wrestling Federation (AAF), lauded the selections, highlighting that Onam Gamno's leadership and Srimant Jha's inspiring journey symbolize the core values of Indian arm wrestling—strength, skill, and spirit.

These appointments not only bolster Team India's competitive prospects but also underscore arm wrestling’s evolution into an inclusive, rapidly growing sport.
