New Delhi, 5 December (H.S.): The Delhi Patiala House Court on Friday extended the National Investigation Agency (NIA) custody of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s brother, Anmol Bishnoi, for another seven days. Owing to heightened security concerns, the hearing was conducted by the presiding judge at the NIA headquarters instead of the court premises.
Earlier, the Patiala House Court had extended Anmol Bishnoi’s custody until December 5. During Friday’s proceedings, NIA counsel Rahul Tyagi sought an extension of custody, stating that further interrogation was necessary to extract crucial information and uncover new details related to ongoing investigations.
Accepting the agency’s plea, the court ordered a seven-day extension of his NIA custody.Anmol Bishnoi had fled to the United States in 2022 using a fake passport following the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala. He is also accused in the attempted murder case of Maharashtra NCP leader Baba Siddique.
Anmol reportedly sought asylum in a U.S. court, but his plea was rejected. Subsequently, he was deported to India and arrested by the NIA from Delhi Airport on November 19.He had earlier been declared an absconder in January this year. There are currently 22 criminal cases pending against him across India. Agencies are probing his alleged role in the May 2022 killing of Sidhu Moosewala.
Investigators claim that Anmol managed extortion rackets on behalf of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang across Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and Rajasthan.
