
New Delhi, 4 December (H.S.): President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed profound grief on Thursday over the demise of Swaraj Kaushal, husband of the late former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and father of BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj. Both leaders affirmed that Kaushal's contributions to public life would be remembered forever.
In a post on X, President Murmu wrote, Deeply saddened to learn about the passing away of former Governor of Mizoram, former Member of Parliament and eminent legal luminary Swaraj Kaushal. His contributions will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences to his daughter and MP Bansuri Swaraj, other family members and admirers.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to X, stating, Saddened by the passing away of Swaraj Kaushal Ji. He carved a niche for himself as a lawyer and as a person who used the legal profession to improve lives.
He added that Kaushal became India's youngest governor, leaving an indelible mark on Mizoram during his tenure, and demonstrated commendable insight as a parliamentarian.
In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with his daughter Bansuri and family members, Modi concluded.
Born on July 12, 1952, Swaraj Kaushal studied at Delhi University and Panjab University. Renowned as a senior advocate in the Supreme Court, he served six years as a Rajya Sabha MP and held the governorship of Mizoram, becoming the youngest person to assume that office. Kaushal married Sushma Swraj in 1975.
