New Delhi, 4 December (H.S.): Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) Chairman Vivek Chaturvedi warned on Thursday that international syndicates are increasingly exploiting courier services and e-commerce platforms to smuggle narcotics into the country, posing a persistent threat to national security.
Addressing officers at the 68th Foundation Day celebrations of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) at CBIC headquarters in New Delhi, Chaturvedi urged authorities to reaffirm their commitment against emerging threats. He emphasized leveraging advanced data analytics to anticipate evolving smuggling patterns and maintain proactive vigilance.
Chaturvedi commended DRI's unwavering professionalism and pivotal role in safeguarding legitimate trade. He encouraged the use of cutting-edge technology, risk management tools, and global partnerships to strengthen India's border security framework.
The remarks underscore growing concerns over narcotics infiltration through modern logistics channels, amid intensified enforcement efforts by Indian customs agencies.
