India-France Air Exercise ‘Garuda-VIII’ Wraps Up in France with Complex Aerial Missions

New Delhi, 4 December (H.S.): The Indian Air Force (IAF) contingent has returned home after successfully completing the eighth edition of the bilateral air exercise ‘Garuda’ with the French Air and Space Force (FASF). The exercise was conducted at the Mont-de-Marsan Air Base in France, where fighter aircraft from both nations flew together in joint combat drills designed to simulate realistic operational environments.

During the exercise, the IAF deployed its Su-30 MKI fighter jets, supported by the IL-78 air-to-air refuelling aircraft and the C-17 Globemaster transport aircraft. The two air forces executed a range of complex aerial operations, including coordinated mission planning, strike and escort missions, and tactical familiarisation — all aimed at deepening interoperability and mutual understanding.

According to the Air Force, Indian maintenance crews ensured the highest levels of serviceability throughout the exercise, enabling the flawless execution of all planned sorties. Senior officers from both nations interacted with personnel during the closing ceremony, praising the professionalism, discipline, and dedication displayed by the participating airmen.

Exercise ‘Garuda-VIII’ stood out as one of the largest international air training operations conducted by the Indian Air Force this year. The bilateral exercise underscored the deep strategic partnership between India and France and offered valuable operational insights to both sides.

Officials stated that the lessons learned during the drills would further enhance India’s combat capabilities and strengthen joint operational synergy with friendly foreign air forces.
