New Delhi, 3 December (H.S.): President Droupadi Murmu called on Wednesday for society to remain vigilant and proactive alongside government efforts to support persons with disabilities, stating that such collective action would strengthen progressive initiatives during the National Awards for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities 2025 presentation ceremony.

Murmu emphasized that persons with disabilities deserve equal rights and participation in national development, not mere sympathy, highlighting their remarkable progress in sports—from one medal at the 2012 Paralympics to 29 at the 2024 Paralympics due to heightened societal and governmental focus.

She cited the President’s House cafeteria, operational since 2024 and run by young persons with disabilities, as a model showcasing their skills and hospitality, inspiring visitors and participants alike.
