New Delhi, 3 December (H.S.): Indian Railways announced on Wednesday the nationwide rollout of an OTP-based ticketing system for Tatkal tickets issued at reservation counters to enhance passenger convenience, transparency, and curb misuse of the quota.
The Ministry of Railways stated the measure aims to prioritize genuine travelers by sending a one-time password to the mobile number provided on the booking form, with tickets issued only after OTP validation. This follows successful pilots launched on November 17 across 52 trains and prior implementations, including Aadhaar-based verification for online Tatkal bookings in July 2025 and OTP for general reservations in October 2025.
Railway officials confirmed the system will expand to all remaining trains and counters within days, building on positive passenger feedback that has made the process more secure and equitable.
