Rawalpindi, 3 December (H.S.): Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is “alive but being mentally tortured” in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, his sister Dr Uzma Khanum has alleged after a rare 20‑minute meeting that followed weeks of speculation over his health and even rumours of his death.

Sister’s Account From Adiala Jail

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Dr Khanum said Khan remains confined to his cell for most of the day, allowed outside only briefly and effectively cut off from communication with family, lawyers and party colleagues.

She asserted that her brother directly blames Pakistan Army chief General Asim Munir for his continued incarceration and psychological pressure, describing the treatment as deliberate “mental torture”.

Weeks Of Silence, ‘Proof Of Life’ Demands

Access was granted only after nearly a month in which Khan’s family and Pakistan Tehreek‑e‑Insaf (PTI) leaders say they were repeatedly denied court‑ordered visits, prompting protests outside Adiala Jail and the Islamabad High Court.

During this period, his sons Kasim and Sulaiman demanded “proof of life”, accusing jail authorities of hiding “something irreversible” and calling the isolation itself a form of psychological abuse.

Claims Of Isolation And Political Pressure

PTI Senator Khurram Zeeshan has separately alleged that Khan is being kept in “complete isolation” to force him into a deal to leave Pakistan in exchange for concessions, calling the situation a clear human‑rights violation.

The government and prison authorities insist Khan is in good physical health, but have not fully addressed opposition claims of coercion, fuelling domestic and international concern over the treatment of the 72‑year‑old former leader, jailed since August 2023 on multiple corruption charges.
