New Delhi, 29 December (H.S.): Indian benchmark indices exhibited volatility in early trade on Monday, ultimately succumbing to selling pressure after an initial mixed opening, with the BSE Sensex declining 42.50 points to 84,998.95 and the NSE Nifty slipping 3.25 points to 26,039.05 by 10:00 a.m. The Sensex opened marginally lower at 85,004.75, dipped to 84,992.82 amid initial selling, briefly recovered to 85,250 on buying support within the first half-hour, before profit-taking reversed gains.

Similarly, the Nifty commenced positively at 26,063.35, fell to 26,044.15, surged to 26,106.80, then edged down as traders booked profits.Key Gainers and LosersAmong Sensex heavyweights, Tata Steel, Hindalco Industries, Trent Ltd., Tech Mahindra, and Kotak Mahindra Bank traded between 0.48% and 2.31% higher, bucking the downturn.

In contrast, Bajaj Finserv, Axis Bank, Reliance Industries, TCS, and Jio Financial Services posted losses ranging from 0.12% to 0.55%.Of 2,181 actively traded stocks, 1,048 advanced while 1,133 declined; within the Sensex's 30 components, 17 gained and 13 fell, whereas Nifty's 50 stocks saw 24 in green against 26 in red.

The indices had closed weaker on Friday, with Sensex shedding 367.25 points or 0.43% to 85,041.45, and Nifty dropping 99.80 points or 0.38% to 26,042.30, setting a cautious tone for Monday's proceedings. This choppy session reflects ongoing profit-booking amid global cues and domestic positioning ahead of year-end.
