29 Dec (HS): A man detained for allegedly attempting to rape a 10-year-old girl
managed to flee police custody but was apprehended four days later, officials
said on Monday. The culprit, Javed alias Chand Babu (28), managed to leave on
the morning of December 24 while seeking treatment at a medical college after
being shot during a police encounter, according to Additional Superintendent of
Police (East) Shailendra Lal. Javed was apprehended on the intervening night of
December 28 and 29. On December 20, he tried to rape the kid in a location near
the Patti Kotwali police station. Police said a complaint had been filed
against him under relevant sections, including provisions of the Protection of
Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
He
was caught during an encounter at Amapur Mod on the intervening night of
December 23-24, and an illegal rifle and cartridges were discovered in his possession,
according to ASP Lal. According to the officer, the accused was later admitted
to a medical college from which he departed. Following Javed's escape, a FIR
was filed against five persons, including four cops - sub-inspector Keshav
Prasad and constables Vinod Singh, Adarsh Yadav, and Gulshan Kumar - who had
been assigned to keep an eye on him when he managed to flee. A case was filed
against the accused and four cops under relevant sections on December 26 in
response to a complaint filed by Patti Kotwali Station House Officer (SHO)
Abhishek Sirohi, according to ASP Lal. Police said an investigation is ongoing.
