New Delhi, 26 December (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Tripura Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswabandhu Sen, describing his death as a great loss to the state and the nation. Sen, who had been unwell for several months, passed away earlier in the day while undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
In a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister shared an old photograph of himself with Sen and paid tribute to his lifelong commitment to public service. “Deeply pained by the demise of Tripura Legislative Assembly Speaker Shri Biswabandhu Sen Ji. He will always be remembered for his efforts towards Tripura’s development and his dedication to numerous social causes,” the Prime Minister wrote.
Recalling Sen’s long-standing service to the people of Tripura, Modi said the state has lost an experienced legislator and a devoted social worker. He extended his condolences to Sen’s family, friends, and supporters, praying for strength to bear the loss.
Biswabandhu Sen, a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), had held key positions in Tripura’s political landscape and played a pivotal role in the state’s legislative affairs. Known for his simplicity and grassroots connect, Sen served three consecutive terms as an MLA from the Dharmanagar constituency before becoming Speaker in 2023.
