New Delhi, 26 December (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi today remembered the unparalleled bravery and sacrifice of the Sahibzades—the valiant sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji—on the solemn occasion of Veer Baal Diwas, observed annually on 26 December to commemorate their martyrdom.
In his message posted on X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister described Veer Baal Diwas as a day of reverence, courage, and righteousness, dedicated to honoring the faith and devotion of the young Sikh martyrs and their grandmother, Mata Gujri Ji.
He wrote:“Veer Baal Diwas is a day of reverence, dedicated to remembering the sacrifice of the brave Sahibzades. We recall the unshakeable faith of Mata Gujri Ji and the immortal teachings of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. This day is associated with courage, conviction and righteousness. Their lives and ideals will continue to motivate people for generations.”
The Prime Minister’s message was also shared in Punjabi, where he expressed gratitude to Mata Gujri Ji and invoked the valiant spirit of the Sahibzades, describing their martyrdom as an everlasting symbol of steadfastness and devotion to truth.
Veer Baal Diwas, instituted by the Government of India in 2022, commemorates the supreme sacrifice of Sahibzada Zorawar Singh Ji and Sahibzada Fateh Singh Ji, the younger sons of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, who were martyred at a tender age by the Mughal regime for refusing to renounce their faith. Their courage and commitment to dharma remain among the most revered chapters in India’s spiritual and cultural history.
This national observance, marked across the country through remembrance ceremonies, educational events, and community gatherings, underscores the enduring message of bravery and perseverance embedded in Sikh heritage.
Prime Minister Modi, through his tribute, called upon the nation to draw strength and moral inspiration from the courage of the Sahibzades and the teachings of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, emphasizing that their virtues “will continue to motivate people for generations to come.”
