Sao Paulo, 23 December (H.S.): Brazilian football superstar Neymar has undergone successful arthroscopic surgery on his left knee to repair a meniscus injury, with expectations of a full recovery within approximately one month. His club Santos confirmed the procedure on Monday, noting that it was performed by the Brazil national team's doctor, who had previously operated on Neymar for a leg bone fracture and an ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) injury sustained during a match against Uruguay in October 2023.
The 33-year-old forward endured a challenging season marked by persistent injuries but played a pivotal role in helping Santos avoid relegation from Brazil's top league. Neymar's current contract with Santos expires at the end of this year, though negotiations for a contract extension remain ongoing.
Neymar, formerly a star at Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, has not featured for the Brazil national team in the past two years due to recurring injuries. However, he is optimistic about returning under new head coach Carlo Ancelotti for the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Notably, Neymar holds the record as Brazil's all-time leading goalscorer, having netted 79 goals in 128 international appearances.
