Sonbhadra,
20 December (H.S.): A case of forced religious conversion has come to light in
UP. A man married a tribal girl 12 years younger than him while having two
wives. Despite his father's objection, he forcibly married her. On complaint,
the police declared her an adult and closed the file in 42 days. The identity
of the daughter for whom the father had appealed in front of the media in
Baghadu village of Duddhi in Sonbhadra has also changed. It has come to light
that the girl, who changed her name from Pinky to Afreen, lives in Anpara area.
It is alleged that Azam lured her into his trap and married Pinky while already
having two wives.
Police
and agencies are busy gathering information on the incident. The BJP district
president has also expressed the need for a high-level investigation. He stated
that a list is being compiled of the number of such cases in Baghadu and other
locations. It should be noted that on Thursday, Ashrafi Lal, a resident of
Baghadu, filed a complaint at the tehsil headquarters alleging that his married
daughter was forcibly abducted from her home, forced to convert to Islam, and
then married. According to sources, this incident dates back to 2022.
Pinky,
who was married and given the name Afreen, was the fifth of six siblings.
According to Ashrafi Lal, he married his daughter on May 10, 2022, in Kataundi,
Dudhiya. Azam forcibly taken her away from home on July 3, 2022. It is alleged
that Azam is 12 years older than her, deceived her and, despite her protests,
forcibly abducted her from her home on July 3, 2022. Her father filed an FIR
against Azam, his brother Alam, and uncle Bashir at the Duddhi police station
on July 8, 2022, but the police closed the case after 42 days on August 20,
claiming she was an adult.
Azam
had two more marriages before Pinky: It is being claimed that Azam, who married
Pinky, now known as Afreen, was also previously married to Ishrat from Nagar
Untari (Garhwa) and Rebunnisha from the Mahuli area of Jharkhand.
Razia's
name was also used to claim displacement benefits from the Kanhar Project: According
to the order issued by the Tehsildar Court on September 10, 2016, a total of
six plots of land measuring 0.4049 hectares in the name of Razia located in
Baghadu village were sold in the name of the project through Executive Engineer
Kanhar Canal Project Section Pancham Dudhiya.
Razia
clarified that the land was donated to her nephews and not through a deed. Razia
appeared before the tehsil administration and clarified the land deed. Razia
stated her name before marriage was Dularia. She stated her age as 70 and said
she had a court marriage with Bahadur Ali 46 years ago in Garhwa, Jharkhand.
In
her statement, Razia identified herself as a Hindu and a Panika by caste.
Regarding the aforementioned land deed, she claimed that she did not sell it
but donated it to her nephews. The truth of this is still under investigation.
Land
given to a relative in Delhi through Razia: A case has come to light in which
Bahadur Ali, through Razia, had land purchased from a Scheduled Tribe declared
non-agricultural under Section 80 and sold it to a Delhi resident. According to
the order passed by the court of the Naib Tehsildar East, the land which was declared
non-agricultural on December 7, 2024, was transferred just four months later on
May 13, 2025 in the name of Syed Muzaffar Alam, resident of Joga Bai Extension
Area, Jamia Nagar, South Delhi, currently residing in Baghadu. The
Naib Tehsildar issued a rejection order, stating that the accountant's
statement favored the transfer process. Similarly, on September 19, 2025, the
non-agricultural land was transferred to Ghulam Jilani, a resident of Sundari.
As in the previous case, the Naib Tehsildar passed the transfer order through
the court. Both deeds were reportedly executed on behalf of Razia.
“All
party workers have been asked to monitor illegal religious conversions in the
district. After collecting information from all areas, a list will be compiled
and brought to the Chief Minister's attention, demanding a high-level investigation,”
said Nandlal Gupta, District President, BJP.
“We
conducted an investigation. We are investigating any fraudulent documents used
in the land case. Those found guilty will be prosecuted under appropriate
sections,” Nikhil Yadav, SDM Duddhi.
“The
investigation into the case already registered is ongoing. No new case has yet
come to my attention. If someone complains, an investigation will be conducted
and action will be taken,” Rajesh Kumar
Rai, CO Duddhi.
