New Delhi, 2 December (H.S.):Congress Rajya Sabha member Renuka Chaudhary sparked controversy on Monday, the first day of the winter parliamentary session, by bringing a dog into the Parliament premises and making a contentious remark that drew sharp criticism.
However, on Tuesday, opposition leader Rahul Gandhi appeared to avoid commenting directly on the issue in the Lok Sabha. When questioned by journalists, Rahul Gandhi responded with a sarcastic tone, questioning the significance of the matter, asking, What did the poor dog do? Are dogs not allowed here? Perhaps pets are barred?
His remarks underscored the irony he perceived in the controversy overshadowing more pressing parliamentary discussions. The dog incident arose after Chaudhary explained that she had rescued a small puppy wandering in the road after a scooter-car collision, fearing it might get hurt.
She said she placed the puppy in her car, brought it to Parliament, and then ensured it was safely sent back. The BJP criticized the act, raising concerns over security protocols and decorum within parliamentary precincts.
BJP MP Jagdambika Pal demanded action against Chaudhary, calling her behavior a breach of parliamentary dignity. The incident has sparked debate on rules and parliamentary decorum, with Rahul Gandhi’s comments adding a layer of political satire to the controversy.
