New Delhi, 2 December (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated 19-year-old Vedamurti Devavrat Mahesh Rekhe for completing the rare and rigorous Dandakrama Parayanam, a recitation of 2,000 mantras from the Shukla Yajurveda’s Madhyandini branch, without interruption in just 50 days. The Prime Minister described the feat as extraordinary and said it would be remembered by generations to come.

Sharing his sentiments on social media platform X, PM Modi expressed pride in the young scholar’s accomplishment, highlighting that the flawless recitation, which embodies the highest principles of the Guru Parampara, took place in the sacred city of Kashi (Varanasi), where he serves as a Member of Parliament.

PM Modi extended his respectful pranams to Devavrat’s family, and to the saints, seers, scholars, and organizations across India that supported this remarkable endeavor.

Vedamurti Devavrat’s achievement marks a historic moment in Vedic tradition, as the Dandakrama Parayanam is known for its complexity, demanding mastery of intricate phonetic rules and tonal precision. This rare feat, believed to have been performed only a few times in recorded history, underscores Devavrat’s deep dedication to preserving India’s ancient spiritual heritage.

The city of Varanasi recently celebrated this milestone with great fervor, honoring the young scholar with a golden bracelet valued at Rs 5 lakh and a monetary award of Rs 1,11,116, conferred by the Jagadguru Shankaracharyas of the Sringeri Sharada Peetham.
