New Delhi, 2 December (H.S.): A Delhi court on Tuesday extended the National Investigation Agency (NIA) custody of Delhi blast accused Amir Rashid Ali by seven days in connection with the explosion near the Red Fort. The order was passed by Principal and District Judge Anju Bajaj Chandna at Patiala House Courts.Ali’s initial period of NIA custody was set to end today, after which he was produced before the court. The NIA had arrested him on November 16 in the ongoing investigation. So far, the agency has apprehended seven individuals in relation to the case.

Earlier, on November 18, the Patiala House Court had remanded suicide bomber Dr. Umar Nabi’s aide, Jasir Bilal Wani alias Danish, to ten days of NIA custody. Danish was arrested from Srinagar. According to the NIA, he had modified drone technology and attempted to develop a rocket before the planned car explosion.

Investigators stated that Danish played a crucial role in executing the conspiracy alongside Umar Nabi.An NIA official said that Umar Nabi had brainwashed Danish, a political science graduate, into becoming a suicide attacker.

In October 2024, Danish traveled to a mosque in Kulgam to meet the so-called “Doctor Module” and was later taken to Al-Falah University in Faridabad, Haryana, where he stayed under instructions from the module.

Initially detained by Jammu and Kashmir Police, Danish reportedly confessed during interrogation that the module members aimed to recruit him as an overground worker (OGW) for the banned terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed.Investigations also revealed that Umar Nabi had been attempting for months to radicalize Danish into carrying out a suicide mission.

However, the plan failed in April this year when Danish refused, citing financial hardship and his belief that suicide is forbidden in Islam. The NIA confirmed that Amir Rashid Ali, the first person arrested in the case, allegedly assisted Umar Nabi in procuring the car used in the planned attack. The agency continues to investigate the wider conspiracy behind the Red Fort blast.
