New Delhi, 2 December (H.S.): Both houses of Parliament saw disruptions on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, over the demand for a discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists, leading to adjournments until 2 pm.In the Rajya Sabha, proceedings began at 11 am but were soon overtaken by opposition members demanding debate on the SIR issue.

Despite the Speaker C.P. Radhakrishnan’s efforts to continue Zero Hour despite the uproar, opposition members raised slogans and insisted on the discussion. Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge reminded the Chair of parliamentary conventions relating to raising issues and naming members.

Parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju was accused by the opposition of avoiding the discussion. The Speaker noted the minister was considering it and would respond later. Leader of the House J.P. Nadda said a meeting with opposition leaders on the matter would be held soon. The Speaker finally adjourned the Rajya Sabha at 11:53 am till 2 pm after the uproar persisted.

Meanwhile, multiple members raised other issues such as pollution, water problems, inclusion of rice grain in anganwadis, and the establishment of a Bhojpuri academy in Uttar Pradesh. In the Lok Sabha, after resuming at 11 am, opposition members began protesting the SIR issue, disrupting the speech of Parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju.

Repeated appeals by Rijiju and an assurance of discussions with leader of the opposition Rahul Gandhi failed to restore order. Due to the continuous disruption, the Speaker adjourned the House first till noon and then again at 12:09 pm till 2 pm.The opposition's demand for debate on the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls remains a key issue, with the government stressing careful consideration without imposed timelines.

The adjournment reflects ongoing tensions and the challenge of balancing parliamentary decorum with pressing electoral reform debates on this second day of the winter session.
