18 Dec (HS): Vande Mataram will be discussed for five hours during the winter
session of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. A meeting of the Business
Advisory Committee was held on Thursday, a day before the Assembly session
begins on December 19. Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana, along with members of
the ruling and other parties, attended the meeting.
Samajwadi
Party (SP) leader MLA Ravidas Mehrotra, emerging from the meeting, stated that
the Assembly will run from December 19 to 24. On the first day, the House will
adjourn after a condolence meeting for the deceased. Saturday and Sunday will
be holidays. The House will resume proceedings on Monday, December 22nd. Vande
Mataram will be discussed on that day.
Opposition
MLA and SP leader Ravidas Mehrotra told reporters that the government had
proposed a four-hour discussion on Vande Mataram. The opposition demanded an
eight-hour discussion. A five-hour discussion was agreed upon.
He added that in
the Business Advisory Committee meeting, the opposition demanded an increase in
the number of session days. It was also demanded that the House proceedings be
conducted by postponing holidays on Saturdays and Sundays. The government has
said it will consider this. The proposed schedule for the Assembly proceedings
is to continue until December 24th.
