
New Delhi, 18 December (H.S.): The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) released on Thursday its report on independent drive tests (IDT) conducted in November across Surat city and surrounding areas in Gujarat, evaluating mobile network service quality. Reliance Jio and Airtel excelled in voice and data performance overall, with Jio leading decisively in 5G and 4G data speeds.
According to the Ministry of Communications, Reliance Jio and Vodafone-Idea (VI) achieved a perfect 100% call success rate in 2G and 3G voice services, followed by Airtel at 99.55% and BSNL at 92.82%. Drop call rates stood at zero for Airtel and VI, 0.15% for Jio, and 4.10% for BSNL, while VI topped call quality with a Mean Opinion Score (MOS) of 4.48.
In auto-selection mode encompassing 5G, 4G, 3G, and 2G data services, Jio recorded the highest average download speed of 279.36 Mbps, outpacing Airtel's 149.11 Mbps, VI's 45.02 Mbps, and BSNL's 4.83 Mbps. Jio also dominated upload speeds at 46.54 Mbps, with VI and Jio showing superior latency performance compared to competitors.
TRAI's Jaipur regional office-commissioned agency performed the tests from November 3 to 7 within the Gujarat License Service Area (LSA), covering 412 km of city drives, 14 hotspot locations, and a 2 km walk test. Key Surat areas tested included commercial and residential hubs such as Diamond Nagar, Udhna, Bhestan, Sachin, Pandesara, Vesu, Adajan, Randher, Katargam, Mota Varachha, New City Light, and Parle Point.
