New Delhi, 18 December (H.S.): President Droupadi Murmu, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and several chief ministers expressed profound sorrow on Thursday over the passing of renowned sculptor Ram Sutar, the visionary creator of the Statue of Unity, offering heartfelt tributes to his monumental legacy in Indian art and culture.

President Murmu posted on X that the demise of Padma Bhushan awardee Ram Sutar has left her deeply grieved. She described his iconic works, including the Statue of Unity, as grand symbols of India's artistic and cultural heritage, destined to inspire generations.

Murmu extended deep condolences to the bereaved family and admirers.Home Minister Amit Shah hailed Sutar as a great artisan who rendered Indian culture and heritage eternally memorable, noting his significant contributions to the restoration of Ajanta-Ellora sculptures.Shah termed the loss irreparable to the Indian art world.

Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari stated that Sutar left an indelible mark on Indian sculpture through the world's tallest statue, the Statue of Unity, and numerous historical monuments.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath conveyed grief, asserting that the art fraternity has suffered a profound shock with the passing of the Statue of Unity's architect. He prayed for the departed soul's peace and strength for the grieving family.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis paid homage, announcing that Sutar's last rites would be performed with full state honors.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta remarked that from Mahatma Gandhi's statue in Parliament House to the colossal Statue of Unity of Sardar Patel, Sutar animated India's pride through his unparalleled artistry, calling the loss irreplaceable for the art world.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma described the news as heart-wrenching, praying for eternal peace for the soul of the great sculptor behind the world's tallest statue and solace for his family.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed deep sorrow, stating that the art world has lost a precious gem, with Sutar's 'Iron Man' Statue of Unity in Gujarat conveying messages of unity to India and the world, ensuring his contributions remain unforgettable.
