Nadia, 18 December (H.S.) : In a major operation along the India–Bangladesh international border, the Border Security Force (BSF) stationed in South Bengal successfully intercepted a gold smuggling attempt in Nadia district, West Bengal. Acting on a tip-off, the 32nd Battalion of the BSF at Maluapara border outpost seized 510 grams of gold biscuits, valued at approximately Rs 67,37,100. Two Indian smugglers were arrested in connection with the operation.

According to BSF sources, on the morning of December 17, personnel at Maluapara outpost received information that smugglers were attempting to bring illegally transported gold from Bangladesh into India. Acting promptly, the BSF heightened surveillance in the area. Around 10 a.m., personnel spotted a suspicious individual approaching the Indian border from the Bangladeshi side, concealed among bamboo thickets. When challenged by the BSF team, the suspect surrendered without resistance.

During a search, two plastic-wrapped packets were recovered from the individual, containing four gold biscuits. The suspect was immediately taken into custody. Interrogation revealed that he intended to deliver the gold to another person from his own village. Acting on his information, BSF personnel conducted a raid in Rangiyapota village and arrested the second suspect from his residence.

Both arrested individuals were brought to Maluapara border outpost for further questioning, during which they admitted that they had been promised payment in exchange for facilitating the illegal smuggling. The prompt action by BSF personnel successfully thwarted the smuggling attempt. The seized gold and the arrested suspects have been handed over to the relevant authorities for further legal proceedings.

A spokesperson for the South Bengal border said BSF personnel continue to perform their duties with vigilance and dedication to prevent smuggling and other illegal activities. Residents of border areas have been urged to report any information related to gold smuggling or other illegal activities to the BSF through the “Seema Sathi” helpline at 14419 or via WhatsApp at 9903472227.
