
Kolkata, 18 December (H.S.): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) slammed the Trinamool Congress (TMC) over an attack on the family of an ex-serviceman in Howrah, West Bengal. The victim's family alleged that after purchasing land, local Trinamool Congress leaders demanded protection money from them. When the family refused to pay, they were targeted.
On Thursday, Bengal BJP co-observer Amit Malviya highlighted the incident on the social media platform X, levelling serious allegations against the Trinamool Congress government.
In his post, Amit Malviya said, The ‘cut money’ culture under Mamata Banerjee’s watch has plunged to new depths.
A shocking case has emerged from Howrah, West Bengal. A former Army man’s family has complained that after purchasing a plot, they were pressured by local TMC leaders to pay protection money. When they refused, the family claims they were targeted.
He further added, According to the complaint, the complainant’s 13-year-old minor daughter was subjected to an attempted sexual assault, and the family faced a life-threatening attack. The complaint names TMC MLA Sameer Panja.
Malviya said, These are serious allegations and must be thoroughly investigated to ensure justice and accountability. Given the seriousness of the matter, the National Human Rights Commission has taken cognizance and sought a report from the state authorities.
As of the time of filing of the news, there has been no official response from the Trinamool Congress or MLA Samir Panja regarding these serious allegations.
