New Delhi, 18 December (H.S.): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday strongly condemned the conduct of opposition members during the Lok Sabha debate on the Viksit Bharat: Rojgar and Aajeevika Mission (Grameen), also known as the ‘VB – G RAM G’ Bill, describing their behaviour as undignified and shameful.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan criticised the opposition’s disruption of parliamentary proceedings. “Parliamentary debate is the soul of democracy,” he said, “but what the opposition displayed today — tearing and throwing papers inside the House — is a grave insult to the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi.

The BJP strongly condemns such behaviour.”He asserted that the conduct of Congress and allied opposition members had “dishonoured democracy itself,” adding that parliamentary decorum had been “torn apart” and that the opposition had tried to turn “democracy into mobocracy and vandalism.”

Chouhan went on to highlight that the Modi government is working through multiple welfare and livelihood programmes to uplift the poor. “Due to our sustained efforts, more than 25 crore people have moved above the poverty line,” he said.

“A developed India must mean a developed countryside — this is the Modi government’s mission. That is why we have increased the guaranteed employment under MGNREGA from 100 to 125 days, with a total proposed allocation of ₹1,51,282 crore, of which the Central Government’s share exceeds ₹95,000 crore.”

Chouhan outlined the government’s holistic plan for ‘Viksit Gaon’ (Developed Village), including initiatives for rural infrastructure, schools, healthcare centres, water conservation, Anganwadi buildings, livelihood activities, and road connectivity. “We have defined every aspect of what a developed village should look like,” he said.

“It is therefore surprising that the opposition is objecting even to such forward-looking provisions. They seem to be opposing the use of technology — but should we allow corruption and inefficiency to continue unchecked?”

He reiterated that the government’s focus remains on transparent development and empowerment of rural India, ensuring that every welfare scheme directly benefits those most in need.
