Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium is set to host a historic and inspiring cricketing event — the first-ever Physical Disability T20 Series, scheduled from December 16 to 18. All three matches of the three-day series will be played at the same venue, carrying a powerful message of inclusion, courage, and sportsmanship.
The series aims to provide a platform to showcase the talent, perseverance, and determination of differently-abled cricketers.
With physical disability cricket gaining recognition at both national and international levels, this tournament marks a significant milestone for the sport, especially at such a prestigious venue as Wankhede.
Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) Secretary Unmesh Khanvilkar expressed pride in hosting the event, saying, “It is a moment of great honor for the MCA to host the first-ever Physical Disability Cricket Series.
This initiative not only celebrates the spirit of these athletes but also underscores that cricket truly belongs to everyone. Our president, Ajinkya Naik, remains deeply committed to promoting disability cricket, and MCA will continue providing full support in the future.”
Ravi Chauhan, General Secretary of the Differently Abled Cricket Council of India (DCCI), called the event a “special occasion” for all players. “Playing at the same Wankhede Stadium where India lifted the 2011 World Cup will multiply our players’ confidence and motivation. We are deeply thankful to MCA President Ajinkya Naik and his team for their constant support to disability cricket,” he said.He further mentioned that with support from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), consistent efforts are being made to expand and develop physical disability cricket across the country.
Each match of the series will stand as a testament to competitive spirit, teamwork, and resilience, advancing the vision of equality and empowerment through sports.Cricket fans and supporters of inclusive sports have been urged to attend and salute the indomitable courage of these exceptional athletes.
