Ann Arbor, Michigan, 13 December (H.S.): Former University of Michigan head football coach Sherrone Moore was officially charged on Friday with stalking, home invasion, and assault stemming from a domestic dispute that allegedly involved a former girlfriend, according to court filings.
The 39‑year‑old coach, who was abruptly dismissed from his post earlier this week, was arrested hours after university officials said they had obtained “credible evidence” of an inappropriate relationship with a staff member—a clear breach of institutional policy.
Authorities in Pittsfield Township, located about 15 minutes from the Ann Arbor campus, said officers responded at 4:10 p.m. local time Wednesday to reports of an assault. Police later confirmed that neighboring Saline officers assisted in locating and detaining Moore. Details of the alleged misconduct and the domestic confrontation remain undisclosed.
A magistrate on Friday granted Moore a $25,000 bond, requiring him to wear a GPS tracking device and maintain strict distance from his former partner, NBC News reported. Moore and his legal representatives have not yet publicly commented on the charges.University athletic director Warde Manuel stated that Moore’s actions represented a “severe violation” of professional ethics and university standards.
“We maintain a zero‑tolerance policy for such conduct,” he said in a statement released to the BBC.Moore, in his second season leading the Michigan Wolverines, had been preparing for a December 31 matchup against the University of Texas in the Cheez‑It Citrus Bowl. The program has appointed associate head coach Biff Poggi to lead the team in his absence.
