Ahmedabad, 13 December (H.S.): Tennis fans were treated to a nostalgic spectacle on Friday during the fourth day of the Tennis Premier League (TPL) Season 7, as India’s legendary doubles pair Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi appeared together on the court, rekindling memories of their glorious “Lee–Hesh” era.

Paes attended the event as the brand ambassador of GS Delhi Aces, while Bhupathi was present in support of the SG Pipers Bengaluru team, owned by SG Sports, where he serves as CEO. The iconic duo, who once captivated tennis fans worldwide, captured three Grand Slam titles together and reached the World No. 1 doubles ranking.

Expressing his excitement over the event, Paes said, “It’s wonderful to be here in Ahmedabad. The weather is perfect, and witnessing the grandeur of the Tennis Premier League feels like a dream. Our goal is to make tennis a household sport across India.”He added, “I’m grateful to stars like Sania, Rohan, Mahesh, and everyone supporting this league. It’s heartwarming to see juniors, professionals, men, women, and international players share the same court — truly a celebration of the tennis community.”

In a thrilling third fixture of the day, SG Pipers Bengaluru edged past GS Delhi Aces 51–49. Reacting to the results, Paes said, “My team faced Rohan and Mahesh’s side today. Earlier, Mahesh played against Sania’s team. These competitive matches unite the sport and elevate its spirit.”

Discussing the standings, Paes noted that GS Delhi Aces currently lead the points table with 211 points, adding, “It’s been a fantastic season so far. I may be a little biased toward my team, but there’s still plenty of tennis to play. The format is gripping and keeps fans engaged.”

Reflecting on his journey, the 18-time Grand Slam champion shared, “Representing India for 40 years, winning 20 Grand Slam titles, and competing in seven Olympics is an honor. Now, guiding young players through leagues like this — where they can earn, compete, and play against world-class talents — is what motivates me.”

Paes also spoke about TPL’s growing vision: “This is the league’s seventh season, and we’re extremely proud of it. In the future, we hope to take TPL to cities like Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Singapore, attracting global sponsors and recognition.”

Concluding his remarks, the tennis icon added, “As a proud Indian, nothing gives me greater joy than strengthening the sport here at home. From Mumbai to Pune to Ahmedabad, our mission remains clear — to bring tennis to every young fan in the country.”
