New Delhi, Dec 11 (HS): Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan on Thursday expressed delight in the House over Diwali being inscribed on UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage. He said the announcement made on December 10, 2025, has brought immense joy and pride to people in India and across the world.
Radhakrishnan said Diwali is not merely a festival but a civilisational message symbolising the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, hope over despair, and righteousness over wrongdoing. Its universal philosophy transcends faiths, regions and generations, reflecting India’s core spirit of inclusiveness, radiance and resilience.
He noted that Diwali is the 16th element from India to be added to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity list, further enhancing the global presence of India’s cultural legacy.
On behalf of the House, he congratulated all Indians, cultural ambassadors and every individual and institution whose efforts contributed to achieving this recognition. He said the honour encourages renewed commitment to preserve, promote and take pride in the nation’s rich heritage and traditions.
