Over One Lakh Toilets Repaired Under ‘Hamāra Shauchalay, Hamāra Bhavishya’ Campaign


New Delhi, Dec 11 (HS): More than one lakh individual household toilets (IHHL) and over 5,500 community sanitary complexes (CSC) were repaired and beautified under the ‘Hamāra Shauchalay, Hamāra Bhavishya’ campaign carried out from November 19 to December 10 by the Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen), Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS) and the Ministry of Jal Shakti. Over 33 lakh people participated in the nationwide initiative.

According to the Ministry of Jal Shakti, over 49,000 awareness programmes were organised across all states during the campaign, witnessing the participation of around 32.70 lakh people. Tamil Nadu and Gujarat recorded the highest public engagement. More than 10,800 sessions were conducted on waste management and toilet retrofitting to promote improved sanitation practices.

Additionally, sessions were held in nearly 9,800 schools, engaging 6.8 lakh students. To encourage community participation in toilet maintenance and hygiene, around 5,600 chaupals and 3,800 wall-painting activities were also organised.
