Delhi, 11 December (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday met Italy's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, and expressed appreciation for the progress made in implementing the Italy-India Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029.
Tajani, on a three-day visit to India with a business delegation, called on PM Modi as part of a series of engagements aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation across sectors.
In a post on X, PM Modi said he was “delighted” to meet Tajani and noted proactive steps taken by both sides to advance cooperation in trade, investment, research, innovation, defence, space, connectivity, counter-terrorism, education and people-to-people exchanges. He said the India-Italy partnership continues to strengthen, benefiting both nations and the global community.
Tajani also held separate meetings with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Jaishankar wrote on X that they reviewed progress under the Joint Strategic Action Plan in areas including politics, defence, technology, innovation, maritime issues, mobility, space, trade and investment. He also appreciated joint efforts to counter terror financing and discussed cooperation with the EU and other global developments.
Jaishankar emphasised that India-Italy ties are anchored in shared democratic values and a commitment to global peace. He conveyed India’s gratitude for Italy’s solidarity after the recent terror incident in New Delhi. The talks followed earlier momentum from the G20 Summit, where PM Modi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni agreed on a joint initiative to counter terror financing.
Italy remains one of India’s closest partners in counterterrorism efforts, including within the Financial Action Task Force. Both sides also exchanged views on regional and global issues, including the situation in West Asia and the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Tajani is scheduled to meet Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal in Mumbai on Thursday, with economic cooperation expected to remain a key focus.
