New Delhi, Dec 11 (HS): Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Dr. Mohan Bhagwat will begin a three-day visit to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Thursday, during which he will unveil a statue of freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.
Bhagwat will arrive in Sri Vijaypuram today and hold meetings with RSS office-bearers and volunteers. On December 12, he will unveil the statue of Savarkar at Beodanabad in South Andaman. He will also release a song based on Savarkar’s ideas at a programme organised at Dr. BR Ambedkar Institute of Technology.
On December 13, the RSS chief will address a gathering at Netaji Stadium in Sri Vijaypuram, while his return is scheduled for December 14.
Savarkar was imprisoned in the Cellular Jail of Andaman during British rule, serving his sentence in Port Blair from July 4, 1911, to May 21, 1921.
