New Delhi/Jaipur, 10 December (H.S.): Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal on Wednesday announced that bilateral trade discussions between India and the United States are progressing steadily, with a U.S. delegation currently in New Delhi for a two-day official visit to address tariff-related issues.

The delegation is being led by Ambassador Rick Switzer, the newly appointed U.S. Deputy Trade Representative for Trade.

Addressing the Pravasi Rajasthani Divas event, Goyal expressed optimism about the India–U.S. trade dialogue, noting that discussions are moving forward constructively toward a potential bilateral trade agreement. He highlighted that trade negotiations involve multiple dimensions and interlinked issues that require careful coordination between both sides.

Goyal further revealed that talks on free trade agreements (FTAs) with Oman and New Zealand have reached their final stages and are expected to conclude soon. He also indicated that discussions with Chile are nearing completion, paving the way for stronger trade ties with Latin America.

The Commerce Minister added that negotiations between India and the European Union on a comprehensive FTA are advancing as well, with a preliminary framework already in place. The series of talks, he said, reflects India’s growing efforts to strengthen its global trade partnerships and enhance economic cooperation with key allies.
