New Delhi, 10 December (H.S.): The Indian stock market opened on a positive note on Wednesday, rebounding after two consecutive sessions of decline. In the early trade, both benchmark indices — the BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty — recorded modest gains amid mixed global cues.

At the opening bell, the 30-share BSE Sensex surged 168.16 points, or 0.20 percent, to trade at 84,834.44, while the broader NSE Nifty jumped 49.90 points, or 0.19 percent, to 25,889.55.Out of the 30 Sensex-listed stocks, 23 were trading in the green, while seven logged losses.

Shares of Trent, Tata Steel, and Bajaj Finserv gained up to 1 percent in early deals, signaling optimism among investors in key sectors.Meanwhile, the Indian rupee weakened by 20 paise to 90.07 against the US dollar in early trade, reflecting cautious sentiment in the currency market.

Around 9:21 a.m., the Sensex was up 135.57 points, or 0.16 percent, at 84,801.85, and the Nifty traded 22.75 points, or 0.09 percent higher, at 25,862.40.On Tuesday, markets had closed sharply lower, with the Sensex slipping 436.41 points, or 0.51 percent, to settle at 84,666.28, and the Nifty dropping 120.90 points, or 0.47 percent, to end at 25,839.65.
