
Guwahati, 10 December (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday dedicated the newly developed Shahid Smarak Kshetra and park at West Boragaon in Guwahati to the public. The ceremony was attended by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, State Minister Atul Bora, several other ministers, MLAs and senior BJP leaders.
The Chief Minister, along with Sonowal and other dignitaries, paid rich tributes to the martyrs of the historic Assam Agitation, recalling their extraordinary courage and supreme sacrifice. Dr. Sarma offered floral homage at the ‘Shahid Pranam Jyoti’ within the memorial complex and bowed in reverence to those who laid down their lives to protect Assam and Assamese identity.
He also viewed the statues installed at the memorial and reflected on the unparalleled sacrifice of the martyrs. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sarma said the inauguration of the memorial is a gesture of the government’s deep gratitude towards the martyrs of the Assam Movement and will inspire future generations to uphold the spirit of service to the motherland.
The Chief Minister reiterated that his government is committed to advancing the ideals of the Assam Agitation martyrs, while safeguarding the state’s culture, heritage and land. All ongoing efforts to protect Assamese pride and people’s rights, he said, are dedicated to the values for which the martyrs made the ultimate sacrifice.---------
