10 Dec (HS): An agreement has been reached between Kamala Nehru Memorial
Hospital, Prayagraj, and the Tata Trusts, Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and
Allied Trust. This agreement will prove to be a milestone, said Ujjwal
Raman Singh, MP from Prayagraj's Allahabad constituency, who visited Sonia
Gandhi in New Delhi on Wednesday to wish her on her birthday. He said that
Kamala Nehru Hospital will be upgraded with Rs. 250 crore. He thanked Sonia
Gandhi for playing a key role in the signing of the Kamala Nehru Memorial
Hospital and AMU MoU with the Tata Trust, as there are no good hospitals in
Prayagraj and its surrounding districts. People run to Lucknow and Delhi for
treatment. His commendable effort will provide affordable and good treatment to
the residents of Prayagraj and the surrounding districts.
Giving
this information, MP representative Vinay Kushwaha said that this is an
important MoU which has been signed between Kamala Nehru Memorial Hospital,
Prayagraj and Tata Trusts. The agreement mainly deals with upgradation of the
hospital and strengthening of cancer care services in particular. He said that
Kamla Nehru Memorial Hospital is a regional cancer centre and aims to establish
a world-class and comprehensive cancer treatment facility in Prayagraj. Promoting
cancer care in North India, this facility will benefit thousands of cancer
patients from Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and other neighbouring states, who
earlier had to travel to Mumbai (Tata Memorial Hospital) or Delhi for high-end
treatment.
Tata
Trusts has approved financial support of approximately Rs. 250 crore for this
project. Under this support, state-of-the-art equipment and departments have
been and are being installed at the hospital. He said that the Department of
Nuclear Medicine includes advanced imaging technologies like PET-CT scan, which
are important for accurate diagnosis and monitoring of cancer.
A
new MRI unit to further strengthen diagnostic capabilities. Advanced equipment,
such as a linear accelerator machine, used in radiation therapy, has been
installed. Modern infrastructure has been created throughout the campus.
Several new and specialized departments, such as nuclear medicine and an MRI
unit, have become operational. Construction of the entire facility is expected
to be completed by the end of 2026, he said. This
agreement is a major step towards making Kamala Nehru Memorial Hospital a
leading centre for cancer diagnosis and treatment in North India.
