New Delhi, 1 December (H.S.): On the first day of the Winter Session of Parliament, Lok Sabha Leader JP Nadda lauded Rajya Sabha Speaker CP Radhakrishnan, praising his steadfast commitment to truth and his dedication to social service throughout his career. Nadda highlighted that Radhakrishnan has consistently adhered to his ideology consciously, despite political pressures, and has served with distinction as a two-time MP, member of key parliamentary committees, and Governor of Maharashtra and Jharkhand.

Nadda referenced remarks by Mallikarjun Kharge about Radhakrishnan’s roots in the Congress family, noting that despite criticism from the Congress establishment labeling him non-nationalistic, Radhakrishnan proved to be a true patriot through collaboration and actions. Nadda emphasized the Speaker’s ability to resist pressure and forge his own path with unwavering dedicate on.

Expressing confidence in Radhakrishnan’s leadership of the Rajya Sabha, Nadda quoted former President Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, asserting that Members of Parliament must be responsible legislators rather than irresponsible professional protesters.In the same session, Opposition Leader Mallikarjun Kharge welcomed the new Speaker and assured full cooperation for smooth and impartial proceedings.

Kharge called for equal opportunities for both government and opposition members. However, he lamented the “unexpected and abrupt” resignation of the previous Speaker Jagdeep Dhankhar, expressing regret that the House was denied a formal farewell. His comments sparked protest from ruling party MPs.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju condemned Kharge’s remarks as inappropriate on this solemn occasion, reminding the House that Congress had twice moved no-confidence motions against Dhankhar and accused Kharge of disrespect. In response, JP Nadda intervened, deeming the issue irrelevant and urging members to focus on honoring the new Speaker amid the ongoing felicitation.

Leaders from various parties including Derek O’Brien (TMC), Trichy Shiva (DMK), and Ramdas Athawale (RPI-A) joined in welcoming Speaker Radhakrishnan. The Speaker expressed gratitude to all members, paid homage to Bharat Mata, and welcomed new MPs with a promise to uphold the proud traditions of the House. He also underscored the imperative that no member has the right to hurt anyone’s sentiments and emphasized the need for tolerance towards differing views within Parliament.
