Kerala: Rahul Easwar Denied Bail

Thiruvananthapuram, 01 December (HS) : A Thiruvananthapuram Court on Monday denied bail to Rahul Easwar, against whom a rape victim had filed a complaint with the Chief Minister of the State.

He has been remanded to 14 days. The Court rejected his bail application taking into account the antecedents of Easwar who is notorious for his vulgar comments in his social media pages.

It is alleged that Rahul Easwar, a regular star in television news channel debates disclosed the identity of the lady who was raped and impregnated by Rahul Mamkoottathil, MLA who is a Congress leader in the State. Mamkoottathil is absconding and the police is searching him in the three Southern States.

Rahul Easwar told the court that his arrest was against the law of the land while the prosecution made it clear that he decined to receive the notices issued by the police. They also said that the cops seized pictures of the victim from the laptop of Rahul Easwar,

He had taken up the brief for Mamkoottathil and abused the lady through his social media pages casting aspersions on her character. He also claimed that Mamkoottathil was innocent and it was the lady who outraged the modesty of the young MLA. The police took him into custody late Sunday evening and after grilling him for few hours altered the charges against him by incorporating the non-bailable sections in the FIR.

On Monday the team of cops raided the palatial home of Rahul Easwar and seized his laptop and mobile phones. “He is the best human being in the world and it is for men in distress he has taken up the cudgel on their behalf,” said his spouse Deepa.

Easwar belongs to the clan of the Thanthri of Sabarimala Shrine. His maternal uncle Mohanaru had been arrested by the police for immoral acts some years ago and was barred from performing pooja at the shrine. The ruling CPI(M) recently declared Mohanaru innocent and he is back in “action”.

Feeling the heat following the arrest of Rahul Easwar, a former spokesman of the BJP Sandeep Warrier who switched over to the Congress, has filed a petition in Kerala High Court seeking anticipatory bail

Though the State is all set for the local body polls to be held on 9th and 11th December, it is the escapades of Easwar and Warrier which have hogged the limelight, pushing the polls to the backseat.
