Kolkata, 9 November (H.S.): The ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign in West Bengal achieved a new milestone on Saturday night. According to the latest data released by the state's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) office, more than 41.7 million enumeration forms had been distributed door-to-door across the state as of 8:00 p.m. Saturday. This figure represents an unprecedented increase of 11.3 million forms in a single day, up from 30.4 million distributed on Friday night.
According to officials, approximately 80,681 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) deployed across all 294 assembly constituencies in the state are reaching voters' homes and distributing two copies of the forms. One copy is being kept with the voter, while the other will be submitted to the Election Commission for records.
The Chief Electoral Officer's office reported a significant increase in the pace of distribution in the last 24 hours. While 30.4 million forms had been distributed on the fourth day of the campaign, this figure had surpassed 41.7 million by Saturday night. The Commission stated that this speed is the result of the activeness of the BLO network and effective coordination with the local administration.
According to officials, this is the first time since 2002 that a comprehensive voter list revision of this scale is being conducted in West Bengal. This campaign, being conducted after nearly 23 years, involves thorough scrutiny and verification of every detail to ensure the voter list is up-to-date and error-free.
Meanwhile, sporadic incidents of attacks on BLOs and political workers have been reported in some districts. The Election Commission has taken serious note of these incidents and has sought immediate reports from the respective district administrations. The Commission has clarified that any form of violence or obstruction will not be tolerated and it will ensure that the forms reach every eligible citizen safely.
According to sources, additional observers are being deployed to achieve the targets in the first phase of the campaign. The SIR campaign will continue until December 9, after which the final voter list will be published in January 2026 after verifying the data received.
