DEHRADUN, 3 November (H.S.): President Droupadi Murmu addressed the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly on Monday, commemorating the state's 25th anniversary by praising its development and landmark legislation, including the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill. She urged legislators to prioritize public welfare and serve as a vital bridge between the people and the government.

In her speech, the President highlighted the crucial role of legislative assemblies in ensuring accountability within a parliamentary system. She emphasized that the trust between the public and their representatives is strengthened when MLAs actively address public issues and dedicate themselves to grassroots service. Such work transcends party politics, she noted, advising members to work with special sensitivity for underprivileged sections of society.

President Murmu specifically commended the assembly for passing the Uniform Civil Code Bill, recognizing it as a fulfillment of the directive outlined in Article 44 of the Constitution. She also lauded other significant laws passed by the assembly, such as the Uttarakhand Lokayukta Bill and the Anti-Copying Bill, as measures that promote transparency, morality, and social justice.

Reflecting on Uttarakhand's journey, the President acknowledged its impressive development milestones over the past 25 years. She pointed to commendable progress in environment, energy, tourism, healthcare, and education, which has led to improved human development indices. She stressed the importance of balancing this growth with the preservation of the state's unparalleled natural wealth and beauty.

The President concluded by expressing confidence that the members of the assembly, guided by a 'Nation First' spirit, will continue to steer the state toward rapid development.
